About Me

My name is Farhan Lakhany and I am a philosopher of mind, technology (with a focus on artificial intelligence) and cognitive science. In August 2023, I received my PhD from the University of Iowa and, in July 2026, I joined the San José State University’s Philosophy Department as a tenure-track professor.

My main research interests lay at the intersection of the philosophy of artificial intelligence, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology and cognitive science with an emphasis on consciousness and mental representation. In addition, I have interests in the philosophy of science, metaphilosophy, epistemology, egalitarianism, neuroscience, psychology, evolutionary theory, biology and computer science.
